Beach Plum Kitchen

One of our favorite Carlsbad breakfast stops is Beach Plum Kitchen. We have a standing monthly tradition to pause our crazy life and spend an hour on leisurely, delicious breakfast. Their food philosophy is to take “fresh, minimally processed ingredients, and combine them in simple ways so their natural freshness shines through creating bold and interesting flavors”. Not only do they nail it on flavor, they offer tons of gluten-free options, take gluten-free requests seriously and make our list of top gluten-free restaurants in San Diego’s North County.

Craft Your Own 3-Egg Omelet

Order with gluten free toast and strawberry basil jam. There are tons of filling options for this classic including some non-standard options like smoked chicken andouille sausage, chorizo, roasted poblano peppers, smoked cheeses and more!  All of the homemade jams are delectable but strawberry basil is my absolute favorite.

California Eggs Benedict with Avocado and Roasted Jalapeño Hollandaise

It’s tough to even find the words to describe this one but it’s such a California-take on a classic breakfast staple. The jalapeno hollandaise is something I haven’t found elsewhere and the avocado is always delicious. They have an English muffin for diners who aren’t avoiding gluten, but offer with delicious gluten free bread for those of us who need to be careful.

Lemon Ricotta Buttermilk Pancakes

This is an item that is now on the daily Beach Plum menu, but we discovered originally through their monthly specials. They always have 2-3 specials that offer a fresh take on their normal yet extensive daily menu. The pancake is traditionally not gluten-free but they can adjust the gluten-free pancake option to include the ricotta topping so you can enjoy a take on one of their delicious options. #PERFECTION! Daily Special Gluten-Free Baked Good

One of my favorite treats at Beach Plum is that they have a daily gluten free baked good. Full and fair disclosure, I believe they bake the items in their kitchen which isn’t strictly gluten free. I typically avoid baked goods in circumstances like this, but they tend to be very careful here and I’ve never had a problem. PLUS they are So. Darn. Delicious! Today’s delight was a chocolate chocolate muffin.

Other Notable Mentions

While there are a ton of really delicious options on Beach Plum’s menu, we also die for their Café Virtuoso coffee, dirty chai latte and grapefruit mimosas. They also have an excellent tea selection and the neatest tea cups with built-in infuser (we actually gave these out as Christmas gifts this year).

Private Event Space in Carlsbad

Along with a large indoor dining area and awesome outdoor patio (with toasty heaters), Beach Plum has a corner of their restaurant that can be used for a small private event space. We’ve seen small organizations and parties leverage the space for intimate gatherings and informal breakfast meetings. It’s the perfect spot for a small group to enjoy a delicious meal.
